At Earthroot Acupuncture & Holistic Health, our mission is to create a safe, welcoming space where every person feels respected and seen. We partner with our patients to support healing of body, mind, and spirit. Because at Earthroot, we believe true wellness grows from the ground up.

Together, Dr. Jean and Lauren founded Earthroot as a collaboration, in order to serve the Norton Shores, Muskegon, and greater West Michigan Lakeshore community.
Dr. Jean-Marie Cartier, DACM, MATCM, L.Ac, owner of Earthroot Acupuncture, has been practicing acupuncture for 15 years. She is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Michigan and California, and is nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM). She received her Doctorate in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health and Science (San Diego) in 2020, graduating with highest honors. Dr. Jean also holds a four-year Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from Yo San University (Los Angeles), where she graduated with highest honors in 2013. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication from Florida State University in 2002.
Dr. Jean treats a wide range of health concerns, including but not limited to emotional and physical pain, trauma, digestive issues, fertility, women’s health, anxiety, mood and stress-related conditions. Her work is grounded in the belief that healing is a collaborative process, honoring each person’s unique physiology, history and circumstances.
She is committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment where patients feel heard and empowered. Treatment begins with a conversation about your health goals—where you are, where you would like to go, and how you want to feel. Dr. Jean emphasizes balance, connection with nature, and heart-centered awareness as essential components of long-term well-being.
Meet Dr. Jean
Meet Lauren Harris
Lauren Harris, owner of Earthroot Wellness, is a passionate proponent of acupuncture. She has received highly effective acupuncture for chronic back pain, fertility, and prenatal purposes in a variety of settings and locations over five years. While receiving excellent care from acupuncturist Dr. Jean in Grand Rapids, Lauren identified the lack of qualified acupuncture care in her community. After reaching out to Dr. Jean about bringing her expertise to Muskegon, they began the partnership that is now Earthroot.
Previously, Lauren was a federal employee with the US Food and Drug Administration for 13 years, in a variety of positions including medical device testing as a mechanical engineer, project and program management, strategic planning consulting, and a supervisor in human capital performance and awards. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Union College, and a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University, and has completed a fellowship with the Gordon Institute of Engineering Leadership Program. She is a Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
*Earthroot Acupuncture and Holistic Health LLC is a medical practice solely owned by a State of Michigan licensed acupuncturist. Earthroot Wellness LLC provides non-clinical administrative and billing services to the practice.
Meet Madylan Best
Madylan is a Licensed Massage Therapist and graduate of The Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. She brings a grounded, holistic, and compassionate approach to her practice, with advanced training in a diverse range of modalities including craniosacral therapy, reflexology, myofascial release, lymphatic massage, and Reiki/energy work.
Madylan specializes in chronic pain management and identifying the root causes of bodily dysfunction. With extensive experience supporting survivors of trauma, she brings a deep awareness of the brain-body-spirit connection to every session. Her work is guided by careful attention to how the body's systems function together, with the goal of restoring a state of ease, balance, and optimal well-being.
Her sessions are designed to be both profoundly relaxing and therapeutically effective, a balance she has refined through years of dedicated practice. Clients can expect individualized care that honors the whole person.
